Written, narrated and edited by me, Leo Richards. This channel (Natural World Facts) is my passion project dedicated to exploring the wonders of the natural world and telling stories that inspire! This film is unusual in that it is my first piece of contract work, commissioned by Schmidt Ocean Institute, who have kindly given me permission to post it here on RUclips - so the style might seem a little different to usual, but I had a blast making it. The film premiered at the Royal Institution in London. See the film's outro for full...

I shot this on location in the UK's New Forest National Park, a haven of wild heaths and ancient woodlands, sheltering an oasis of wildlife. I visit the woods quite often - once a week, if I'm able - but year by year I can see the biodiversity wane. This short film aims to highlight the issue of habitat and biodiversity loss in the UK due to industrialisation, climate issues, and pollution. It ...

Exploring life in the deep-ocean midwater is a long-standing challenge for deep-sea research. Robots in the Deep documents recent innovations that allow midwater animals to be sample...

    thank you for your videos. very thorough. man kinds exploration of the waters is in my opinion very fascinating and informative as well as helpful for deeper understandings, but when hinting at the possibility of incorporating human manipulation for "protection" purposes when it has been established that things change and also havent needed our help for "millions of years"...dont you think thats overstepping? and for what self gratification?

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts 4 дня назад

      The deep sea is already being harmed by humans in a lot of ways - plastic pollution, oil and gas drilling, stratification (layering) as waters warm and starve the deep of carbon and oxygen, and likely very soon deep sea mining at seamounts just like the ones featured due to the presence of rare earth metals!! Finding sites like these, and convincing governments of their importance and biodiversity, is the only way to ensure they are protected from exploitation, e.g. by designating marine protected areas! This doesn’t involve “human manipulation” beyond the fundamental and vital scientific practice of sampling - it would involve designating protections to (as far as possible) PREVENT human activity affecting them. It’s not overstepping to try to steward the ocean’s biodiversity in the face of the growing human effect, in my opinion it’s our duty to be responsible! And this is one enormous way to attain that

    Scientists: every animal evolves, trust me bro. When we actually find a living animal and have a 300 million year old fossil and see they are identical the same scientist: oh he just didn't need to evolve because he was perfect in design. But that's where they get caught in the lie because they said before the ice age flood which is just a scientific cover up to the great bibilcal flood scientists claimed the reason for gigantism was that there was much more oxygen in our planet back then and Even if those creatures could survive the flood they would not be able to live in todays climate. So guess what? The fact that these living fossils are aliveS well proves that they were 100 percent wrong and this is incontestable fact. The great flood was because of world-wide genetic tampering. Lizards became giant dragons and scientists in an attempt to cover this up invented the name Dinosaur which just means terrible lizard, but they were known as dragons before we invented the term dinosaur to sell the millions of years ago story when ever nation has much more modern tales and drawings on walls of men slaying dragons . You won't find truth in a classroom when there is someone being paid to sell you on an idea. you have to find it yourself

    This is the second video I watch from this channel, and I have to say: amazing stuff!! I haven't watched nature documentaries in a very long time, and your channel opened the gateway to watching them again. I do have a question however, what's up with the subtitles? Sometimes it shows text that is entirely left out of the video, and sometimes they are inaccurate or clashing because the text is different from the audio significantly

    there are a lot more marine invertebrates than 8,000. It's hard to find a number on it but at the very least there's 200,000 named species, on the high end about double that, but the number of undiscovered species is definitely several million. I have no idea how you got 8,000. That's about the number of Echinoderms though, which is one phylum out of 30+.
